Gen10 is proud to announce its collaboration with Tiberius Group AG, a leading global metals trader, to implement Gen10’s CommOS platform. The partnership marks a transformative step for Tiberius, enabling them to transition from manual, spreadsheet-based processes to a robust digital commodity management solution.

The Challenge: Outgrowing Manual Processes

Before partnering with Gen10, Tiberius Group faced significant challenges in managing their rapidly growing operations. With increasing client demand and business activity, their reliance on spreadsheets and manual processes had become unsustainable.

As Tom Holmes, Tiberius’ representative, explained: "Our growth and client base had outpaced our controls. We were living on spreadsheets, with lots of manual inputs and processes. It left us reactive to situations rather than proactive in managing our operations."

It became clear that a comprehensive, flexible system was needed to provide visibility, control, and efficiency for their operations.

The Solution: Gen10’s Intuitive and Flexible Platform

After carefully evaluating several vendors, Tiberius selected Gen10’s CommOS platform. What made Gen10 stand out was its combination of intuitive and user-friendly design, adaptability to unique workflows, and cost-effectiveness.

CommOS was developed to simplify complex trading processes while offering robust tools for risk management, client insights, and stock control. For Tiberius, this meant:
  • Streamlining Processes: Transitioning from manual spreadsheets to a fully digital system, reducing errors and inefficiencies.
  • Improved Client Management: Enhanced visibility into client geographies and activities, allowing for better service and decision-making.
  • Hedging and Stock Control: Improved tools for managing market positions and ensuring efficient stock management.

How Gen10 Helped Tiberius Succeed

Gen10’s team collaborated closely with Tiberius to tailor the platform to the unique requirements of their refined metals operations. This included customising workflows to handle intricate details specific to their business, integrating with Tiberius’ accounting software, and expanding CommOS functionality.

Workflow customisation created improvements across logistics, broker reconciliations, contract management, and risk reporting. This was achieved through automating the workflows that sync, match, and reconcile data both internally and through external channels - including automatically incorporating warrant details, reconciling futures and options with brokers, and a real-time general ledger integration.

Position reconciliation and market exposure reporting was brought within CommOS, and P&L reporting transitioned from individuals’ spreadsheets to the one centralised system. This provides live oversight of open, matched, and realised P&L for traders and management. And it has reduced the complex and time-consuming month-end closing process down to one that is comfortably completed within 3 days.

Whilst Gen10 used their flexible Workflow Engine to make most of these customisations without the need for development, the team also made several software developments to ensure Tiberius has the flexibility they need to fully manage their refined metals business. This included adding functionality to support intercompany transactions, Polish VAT nuances and split payments, updates to the existing FX and quotation period functionality, and further updates to the advanced pricing within CommOS to expand optionality.

  As Tom Holmes remarked: "The service level has been great. Gen10 has been receptive to our requirements and willing to develop the system to meet our needs. It’s been a mutually beneficial process that benefits both Tiberius and the system itself."

The Results: A Foundation for Growth

The collaboration with Gen10 has already delivered noticeable improvements for Tiberius Group, reducing friction, manual data entry, delays, errors, and the reporting burden:
  • Eliminated Manual Processes: By moving away from spreadsheets, Tiberius reduced the risk of errors and freed up resources for more strategic tasks.
  • Enhanced Data Visibility: The platform provides actionable insights into client activity, stock levels, and market positions, all in real-time - enabling smarter decisions.
  • Collaborative Development: Gen10 worked alongside Tiberius to develop new functionalities, ensuring the system met their precise requirements.
In Tom’s words: “We're in the position where we've managed to drop a lot of these manual spreadsheets that we had. The business has improved. We've got much better visibility of our client base, the client geography, as well as our stock management process and the hedging within the LME market.”
